Maat center ended today, 20 March2008, training thirty journalists for neutral tackling of issues of prisoners, detainees, and their families, thus number of journalists who are trained in the framework of Social Peace Project reached 60 journalists. Some journalists affiliated to national, party, independent and regional journals were participated in the training, and some of them are preparers and broadcasters of TV programs. The training included defining international charters related to rights of prisoners and detainees, and the role of those whose jobs are related to juristic in notifying the society with all its classes of issues of this marginal sector. The training also supported social role in rehabilitating and rejoining this sector to insure securing this sector's members of any thoughts urging for violence that may be created inside sons of prisoners and detainees because of their feeling of deprivation or isolation of society.

In addition, the training witnessed the assertion of Dr. Hanan Salem, professor of political sociology, that 35% of prisoners' wives and mothers sustaining their families while they are deprived form all their social and human rights. The attendance demanded the journalists to support families of detainees and prisoners and to do what is best in order to omit all social barriers imposed on them. They also asserted that members of these families should gain social privileges to compensate for their sustainers' absence, through alliance of governmental and national efforts to stop the increasing crime rates among them.

The center cooperating with the American Agency for International Development will continue training 60 lawyers during the month of April to end training the project's aimed sectors; journalists, social leaders, and lawyers. Then the project will turn to the step of direct relation with families of prisoners and detainees inside the framework of the project to spread culture of social peace and reject thoughts of violence among them. These activities are supposed to be in six governorates; Cairo, Alexandria, Dakahlia, Giza, Almenia and Asyoot, on the condition that, days of peace will be repeated among these families in their governorates.

The center organized, yesterday in Hoor Moheb hostel, a party for mothers and wives of detainees and prisoners on the occasion of Mother Day and the Prophet's Birthday. In this party and in a unique social scene, we tried to realize these families' problems, and to participate with them in their celebrations by distributing sweets and material aids. Nawal Moustafa, the journal writer and leader of Protecting Sons of Women Prisoners Association, attended the party and distributed gifts herself.
