Emergency meeting to discuss the report of the Goldstone
14 \ 10 \ 2009 God will and popular rejection wanted not to waste the efforts in vain of Arab human rights movement in the pursuit of Israel and its leaders, and popular pressure and objections resulted in Arab political movement in the Human Rights Council led to approval of a special meeting of the Human Rights Council of the United Nations to discuss the report of independent Judge "Goldstone" about Israel's crimes in the Gaza Strip, and the meeting will take place on Thursday, October 15, 2009.
In the view of Maat that success in convening this meeting represents a qualitative leap in the work and effectiveness of the International Council on Human Rights and the mechanisms it created, is also a victory for Arab civil society organizations working in the jurist field that advocates the use of human rights weapon to deter and to punish Israel for its crimes in the unarmed Palestinian people in Gaza, which amounted to the extent of killing more than 1400 Palestinian citizens, mostly women and children and injured more than 5500 others. Israel targeted during the brutal bombardment of Gaza all civilian facilities, also bombing of United Nations missions and humanitarian relief agencies.
The Arab human rights organizations, included "Maat" and a lot of international and foreign human rights organizations have moved positively during the Israeli aggression on Gaza during the months of December and January, and appeared on the scene a number of alliances in order to monitor and document the crimes of Israel and the pressure on the UN organizations and the Governments of the concerned States in order to take strict and punitive attitudes toward Israel, and these movements resulted in the formation of an independent Trust Commission headed by Judge Goldstone by International Council for Human Rights of the United Nations, and the committee issued a report in mid-September in more than five hundred pages including a clear condemnation of the "Israeli" officials about the Holocaust , Maat demanded bring the report to the Security Council to convert the file to the International Criminal Court, and consider the imposition of sanctions against "Israel.
But what happened after that has angered the Arab street and jurist interested in world affairs, the Council at its expired session in September 2009 defered consideration of the report of the Goldstone to the next session to be held during the month of March 2010, the Arab movement, which came relatively late, has been remedied by the success to hold a special meeting.
Maat demands of Member States in the International Council on Human Rights to give during this session sufficient evidence on the effectiveness of the Council and its ability to achieve respect for human rights and human dignity and to demonstrate that the presence of the Council was required by the need to complete the systems of international justice. Also demanding Member States to put an end the control of certain states on the jurist file at the world and employed to serve political interests, also "Maat" calls for civil society organizations which have consultative status to support the position of the report and press with its all possess in order to activate the recommendations of a Truth Commission.
In the end, it remains to be caution that the emergency meeting which will be held on 15 October may be the final supplement to the International Council which is subject to test its ability to conquer the will of the violated rights in the world.
